Un Bon Bonnaroo

Summer is upon us, which can only mean one thing, Music Festivals! Okay, so it also means bikes, sunshine, cottages, cute boys and sundresses, but music festivals are definitely high on my list of things to do every summer. I recently had the privilege of checking out one of the largest music festivals in the world, Bonnaroo. With bands like Kings of Leon, Jay Z, Stevie Wonder and the Black Keys, it was destined for greatness. Going with a group of seven females in one RV, it was also destined for drama. Here are some things I learned for any future festival goings, with a focus on Bonnaroo in particular:

  • Go with a small group of people.
  • If you are going to go with a large group of people, understand and appreciate that there is no way you will all get along, but at least be civil towards one another. No snide remarks, no bossing each other around.
  • It’s nice to have men tossed in there too, they are good at keeping it netural.
  • Make sure you have someone you can pair off with. Big groups get split up always, as herding a big group of people is equivalent to that of herding cats. It doesn’t happen. Meow meow meow meow.
  • When you go with a big group of people, make sure you are clear about cash right up front. Everyone should pitch the exact same amount. And don’t bring your own food, that’s stupid, and will inevitably lead to tension (you can’t eat this or drink this since you didn’t pay). Everyone pitches, everyone buys what they want to eat, then there are no arguments. Same goes for booze. Don’t be cheap. $20 isn’t worth arguments.
  • Did you know an RV has a small water tank? Enough for 7 people to take really quick showers, once. You need to empty out the grey matter tank, otherwise it will back up and bring gross water into the shower. You also need to get your water tank refilled.
  • RVs require propane to use the stove. Direct propane lines are hard to find in Tennessee, but as soon as you cross the Canadian border, it will be the first thing you see.
  • Make sure your RV is filled with gas so you can use your generator. AC is essential in 36-42 degree with plenty of humidity.
  • Bonnaroo is camping with 100,000 other people. Camping is easier to first try out with about 5-10 people.
  • Don’t bring electronics such as blow dryers, curling irons, or straighteners. There is little to no power at Bonnaroo.
  • Read and study up what you are getting yourself into. People love to share lists of things to bring.
  • Wet Ones or something similar are AMAZING for washing your hands after using disgusting portapotties.
  • They have showers, but the line up is long. It is also the most incredible feeling you will ever have when you get to shower.
  • Bring sunscreen.
  • Bring rainboots, as it almost always pours. We were lucky. Every other year hasn’t been so lucky.
  • Bring a flashlight or a head lamp so you can see who, or what, you are stepping on.
  • DRINK WATER. Tons of it.
  • Don’t talk to the gangsters, talk to the hippies.

Each music festival is different, but all have similar lessons to be learned. Know where you are going, what you are getting yourself into, and who you are going with. Above it all, go there and take in the music. Don’t worry about things out of your control, and just enjoy.

I don't agree with some of your statements above. I just got back from a cottage trip with 18 girls. There wasn't one problem, and everyone got along amazingly well considering most only knew three or four others before coming.

Still looks like a good time in the pictures.

I've never been to Bonnaroo, but I've gone to Coachella with a large co-ed group and had a blast! :-) I agree with being able to split up at some points, maybe reconvening for bands that everyone likes.

Just an abnormal person can deny from any sort of  enjoyment.Let me suggest you one thing that when ever you have to move to a party specially to a beach party, then keep the alternative dress in your bag because on beach parties you can be in need of extra dress.
